Do I have to pay to use Nomadic Worker?
If you’ve never subscribed to Nomadic Worker before, you get 2 months free. After that, there are subscription options which can easily be cancelled if needed.
If you are a beta tester, testing is totally free. The subscription model uses a “test card” so you won’t be charged regardless of which subscription package you’re trying out.
How does the app actually find me work?
You create a profile, list your skills and the kind of work you’re looking for, then mark yourself as “available.” (or not available). If you drive into an employer’s set radius and your skills match their job listing, the employer gets a notification. If they like the look of your profile, they can send you a notification saying they want to call. Ten minutes later, the call button will appear so they can ring you directly.
The app is designed to be a set-and-forget tool. Just set up your profile and job wish list, save the details, and toggle “Available” or “Not Available” on the map screen. Then sit back and let opportunities come to you.
Why is there a ten minute delay before an employer can call me?
As a full-time traveller myself, I often don’t answer unknown calls and might be in the middle of driving when one comes through. The ten-minute delay is so that you:
Know that someone is about to call you via the Nomadic Worker app.
Have time to pull over and prepare for the conversation.
Do I need to keep the app open all the time?
No. The app runs a foreground service in the background with a small notification. As long as you’re logged in and not marked as invisible, it works while you travel. The notification panel on your phone must display the Nomadic Worker icon for location updates to happen. If you click “stop monitoring” in the notification, location updates will pause and employers won’t be notified as you travel.
Can I switch between being an Employee and an Employer?
Yes. You can delete your in-app account and sign back up as the other role without any issue. Alternatively, you can use a secondary email account to keep both roles active.
Will it drain my battery?
The app uses location services, so there will be some battery use, but it’s designed to run lightly in the background without chewing through too much power.
Do I need internet or will it work offline?
You’ll need an internet connection (mobile data or Wi-Fi) because the app periodically talks to the server to match you with employers.
Explain the location permissions to me.
As an Employee, location permissions are required to update your marker as you travel. The app uses “coarse location,” which means it records a rough GPS fix that may be 3km or more from your exact spot. This way, your precise location is never pinpointed.
The app runs a foreground service that updates your location once every 15 minutes, which helps save battery. Two permissions are required:
General location permissions.
“Allow all the time.” This is so the service can continue updating your location while the app is active, even if it’s in your pocket.
Without the “all the time” permission, employers won’t get updates from you and you’re unlikely to be contacted.
If I see an employer on the map, can I contact them?
No. The app is designed with the employer’s privacy in mind. Your goal is to make your profile complete and attractive so that when you enter their radius, it’s them who reaches out to you.
For Employers (Farmers, Businesses, Roadhouses, etc.)
How do I advertise a job?
Create an account, log in as an Employer, and add the jobs you’re looking for. Set the radius around your location where you want to be alerted if a matching Employee passes by.
Can someone see my location and just call up to my property?
No. The app is designed with the employer’s privacy in mind. Nobody wants hundreds of random drive-ins. To prevent this, your map marker is placed randomly within a 50 km radius of your actual property. This keeps your exact location private.
Can someone randomly contact me via the app?
No. Your privacy is important. Employees can’t see your phone number or email. Those details are only shared when you choose to call an employee through the app.
What happens when someone drives into my radius?
You’ll get a notification saying there’s a potential worker nearby who matches your job listing. You can view their profile and, if you’re interested, call them directly.
Do I have to keep checking the app?
No not entirely. Once you’ve set up your jobs and radius, the app notifies you automatically when a match is nearby. You just need to leave the foreground service running (visible in your phone’s notification panel). If you stop the service, you won’t get alerts unless the app is open. However it is probably advisable to view the app perodically in case you missed a notification.
What kinds of jobs can I list?
The app comes with predefined categories and positions that you can select from. If you don’t see the position you’re hiring for, you can suggest a new one via the Settings tab. The developer will review and approve (or deny) the addition.
Categories and positions are the same for both Employers and Employees, so the app can match them directly.
Do I have to pay workers through the app?
No. Nomadic Worker is simply a connection tool. Payment, terms, and arrangements are worked out directly between you and the worker.
Can I use this outside of Australia?
Yes. While it was inspired by remote Australian travel, the app can be used anywhere in the world.
What do the icons mean?
A green icon means the potential employee is available for work and actively looking.
A red icon means the employee is unavailable at the moment, but still seeking work. They might be on a short-term job, so they could be available soon.
The “pair of eyes” icon shows employees whose profile you’ve already viewed.
A star icon marks an employee you’ve favourited.
Explain the location permissions.
As an Employer, location permissions are only required when you set your initial marker on the map. After that, no more location updates are needed from your phone.
Your foreground service is different from an Employee’s. It simply runs to check for Employees entering your radius and to send you notifications. If you cancel the service in your notification panel, you won’t be notified unless you’re actively using the app.
Will I get multiple notifications if someone enters and exits the radius daily?
No. To avoid spam, the app is designed to limit this. If someone lives on the edge of your radius, you’ll only get one notification from them every 5 days. After that, they’re removed from your database, and only if they re-enter after the cooldown will you get another alert.
General Questions
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. Your data is stored securely and is only used within the app to help connect Employers and Employees. We don’t sell or share your personal details with third parties.
Who can see my profile?
Only Employers whose job listings match your skills (and are within their set radius) can see your profile.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time from within the app (menu → Settings → top right corner). Once deleted, your profile and information are removed from our system.

What if I uninstall the app as a beta tester?
If you’re a beta tester, uninstalling the app before 14 days will break the test period Google requires. Please leave it installed until the 14 days are up, even if you don’t use it daily.
Does the app work on iPhone (iOS)?
Not yet. The current testing phase is Android only. iOS support may come later, but not in the near future.
What if I find a bug or something looks wrong?
Please let us know! You can email us directly, or use the in-app feedback button (menu → Settings → top right corner). Screenshots or notes about what happened are especially helpful.
Who do I contact for help?
If you get stuck or have a question, use the contact email in the footer of this website.
What is the “Test users” option for?
Because the app is new, the database of real users is still small. The “Show test users” option in the Settings menu adds three simulated employers or employees to the map. It’s just to give you a feel for how the app looks when there are more users around.
Do you have a IOS version of the app?
No. But never fear take a look here Tips for IOS Users
