Our Story

The idea behind nomadic worker

Nomadic Worker started as a simple idea during our travels. I’m Larry, and for the last 9+ years my wife Sue and I have been on the road in our caravan, living the nomadic lifestyle around Australia.

Out on those long remote roads, you can drive for hours without seeing another person. It got me thinking, how many farms and remote businesses have I passed where the owner could really use an extra pair of hands? Instead, they’re stuck working endless hours alone, or calling on cousin Bob… who might not actually be the right person for the job, but happens to be the only one available.

That’s when the spark hit: what if there was a way for travellers with the right skills to connect with those remote employers, right when they’re nearby? A simple notification to say “hey, someone who can help just drove past.”

And that’s how Nomadic Worker was born.

This isn’t your typical job site. It’s built for people on the move, travellers, nomads, van-lifers, backpackers and for the businesses and farmers who need flexible, short-term or long term help when it matters most. It’s about making connections that wouldn’t otherwise happen, saving someone from burning out alone on the farm, and giving travellers the chance to pick up work while exploring this amazing country.

On the Road to Opportunity with Nomadic worker

Nomadic Worker isn’t solely focused on one country like Australia, and it’s not just for farmers either. While the original idea was sparked on remote Aussie roads, the concept works anywhere in the world.

There’s no reason it can’t be used by any industry, whether that’s a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere looking for an attendant, or a small-town hospital in need of a visiting brain surgeon.

The primary focus is still travellers finding meaningful, short-term or long-term work while on the move, but the possibilities are endless. Wherever there are people on the road with skills to offer, and businesses that need those skills nearby, Nomadic Worker can help make the connection.

Let's Explain More With An Example Senario :

Farmer Bob is the employer. He’s a farmer in the middle of some remote part of Australia whose closest neighbour is 200 km away, so Bob spends 18 hours a day doing it all himself.

Peter and Mary are a couple travelling in their caravan, checking out the sights of the outback, living the dream.

Traveller Pete has the Nomadic Worker app installed on his phone and has created a resume-style profile outlining his skills. He’s also chosen “Truck driver” and “Station hand” as jobs he is looking for.

Farmer Bob now logs into Nomadic Worker as an employer and sets his radius of 200 km and states that he’s looking for a “Truck driver” and a “Bore runner”.

As Traveller Pete is casually driving around the countryside he enters Farmer Bob’s radius. Bob gets a notification that there is a potential truck driving employee passing through. Bob looks at Pete’s profile and likes the look of his skills, so Bob then rings Pete directly and the connection is made.

That is Nomadic Worker in a nutshell. Bringing people together when they least expect it.
